In the legal realm, being rated by Super Lawyers® is a great honor and an important distinction. Super Lawyers® is a nationally recognized rating service that includes lawyers who have attained notable achievements in their area of the law and a high level of recognition from their peers. The selection process is rigorous and involves a number of phases, during which independent research, peer nominations, and peer evaluations are taken into account. Every candidate that is nominated to Super Lawyers® undergoes an evaluation that assesses twelve different indicators of professional achievement and peer recognition, and these selections are made annually on a state-by-state basis.
Our lead attorneys have both been selected as Super Lawyers® Southern California Rising Stars℠ for a number of years. Attorney Okabe has been awarded this rating for eight consecutive years, and Attorney Haushalter has been selected for three consecutive years. A Southern California Rising Star℠ rating is only given to a lawyer under the age of 40 who has been practicing for ten years or less. These lawyers are selected by their peers, and the nominees are subjected to a thorough evaluation.
The nominees undergo the general survey, and in addition, the attorney-led team of researchers assesses the candidates’ credentials. Points are assigned based on a set defined criteria, and the researchers also confirm that the nominated attorneys are properly licensed, have a good reputation with the state licensing agency, and if possible, determine that the candidates do not have a history of disciplinary action that disqualifies them from the evaluation process.
The points are then totaled from the research process and the general survey and the lawyers are ranked by their point tallies. The attorneys with the highest totals are named to the Rising Stars℠ list for their region, and the research team takes into consideration such factors as the size of the firms, their geographic locations, and the practice area to ensure the list is balanced and diverse. This honor is very distinct, as no more than 2.5% of the attorneys in the state are selected for inclusion in this list.
