Types of INTERPOL Warrant Notices

INTERPOL issues seven different types of notices that can result in a person’s arrest. Each has its own specific sets of conditions written in its official languages of French, English, Spanish, and Arabic. Here is a brief summary of each INTERPOL and an international warrant.

• Red Notice: This is issued to a suspect accused of a serious crime in another country. In many cases, a red notice can result in the extradition of the suspect to the country where the charges originated. It is important to understand INTERPOL does not have the authority to issue an arrest warrant. That power is only granted to one of the 188 sovereign nations that are members.
• Blue Notice: In some cases, a country may request specific information about the location of the suspect and to verify their identity. A blue notice will also request information on the suspect’s past criminal history.
• Green Notice: INTERPOL will issue green notices as a warning to provide information about suspects who are accused of international crime and may be likely to be a repeat offender in another country.
• Yellow Notice: When the government of another country is searching for a missing suspect or children, INTERPOL will issue a yellow notice. It can also be used to identify a suspect who may not have the ability to identify themselves due to amnesia.
• Black Notice: In some cases, a suspect may be deceased. A black notice is issued to request information about an unidentified body.
• Orange Notice: INTERPOL will issue these notices to international law enforcement to warn about a possible threat involving parcel bombs, disguised weapons or other dangerous and hazardous materials.
• INTERPOL-United Nations Security Council Special Notice: These notices are placed against any individual or groups that are the targets of UN sanctions, such as the Taliban, Al Qaeda and ISIS.
