Texas Home Owned by Chris Bosh Raided in Drug Trafficking Sting

Okabe & Haushalter Dec 15, 2017 Drug Crime

It has been nearly two years since Chris Bosh last played in a game in an NBA game. But the former 11-time NBA All-Star is back in the news–and not necessarily for the right reasons. On Friday, December 8th, police in DeSoto, Texas raided a house owned by Bosh as part of a drug trafficking sting. Bosh does not reside in the home. However, his mother Freida Bosh was one of several people found inside during the sting. Although no arrests were made, Mrs. Bosh remains a person of interest.

Name Unfairly Tarnished

Few athletes understand the harsh spotlight of being a celebrity better than Bosh. From 2010 to 2013, Bosh along with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade made up the nucleus of a Miami Heat super team that played in four consecutive NBA Finals. During those years, Bosh and his teammates were under intense scrutiny by the media. But now his name has been dragged into another controversy that doesn’t appear to be his fault. According to reports, police received tips of suspicious activity and unusual high vehicle traffic outside the home. Witnesses claimed they saw several instances of “hand-to-hand” drug transactions outside the property. Although no arrests were made, police seized significant amounts of drug paraphernalia to support evidence of drug trafficking.

Bosh has no record of any criminal activity. However, it is not the first time one of his family members has gotten into trouble. In 2013, the City of Dallas filed a lawsuit against his brother Joel Bosh for illegally operating a private party business from inside a historic building. Reports from the Dallas News indicate the $2.3 million warehouses used by Joel Bosh was owned by their mother Freida. The warehouse had become the scene of many wild parties and several violent incidents prior to the lawsuit from the city.

Overcoming the Court of Public Opinion

When a close relative of an athlete, celebrity or public figure is suspected or accused of a crime, it is easy for people to rush to judgment. Bosh’s name has been unfairly splattered all over the news. Just about every media outlet from ESPN to TMZ has run the story. But it is important to understand nobody has been charged with a crime.
