Was Fatal Crash near Travis Air Force Base an Act of Terrorism?

Okabe & Haushalter Mar 22, 2018 Criminal Defense

After a car gained unauthorized access to Travis Air Force Base on Thursday March 23, officials have confirmed the breach is being treated as a potential terrorist act. The driver of the car died when it burst into flames after crashing into an installation on the military base, with some reports suggesting that the car was loaded with propane tanks, and the fire was started deliberately by the driver. Air Force officials have confirmed that none of the 7,000 military personnel and 3,500 civilians leaving living and working on the Air Force base were injured, and there is no current threat to the area.

The case is currently being investigated by the FBI, who has yet to release any further information about either the incident or the motorist.

Arrested in Los Angeles? This Is What You Should Do

If you get arrested in Los Angeles, chances are that the police officers involved will attempt to take a statement from you, or ask questions, as soon as they attend the scene of the alleged crime. They may even try to question you before officially placing you under arrest. However, whether you committed the crime or not, it is in your best interest not to answer any questions until you have received legal advice from a Los Angeles criminal defense attorney. Any answers you give at this time may be used as evidence against you.

Instead of giving the police any information which may incriminate you, however honorable your intentions may be, you should instead call an experienced Los Angeles criminal defense attorney, whose legal representation could prove invaluable. Should You File an Appeal?

Any criminal conviction can have a lasting effect across all aspects of your life so, if your conviction has resulted from a failure of the Los Angeles justice system, a criminal defense attorney could help you to file an appeal. Some of the circumstances which could lead to a successful appeal include:

  • The jury being deliberately misled by the prosecution, or being lied to
  • Convictions made as a result of errors on the part of your defense attorney
  • Crucial evidence, which may have strengthened your defense, being barred or excluded
