Los Angeles School Shooting Could Have Been An Accident

Okabe & Haushalter Feb 9, 2018 Juvenile Crime

School shootings are more prevalent in the United States than in any other country of the world. That’s a fact. But what’s also a fact is that not every school shooting is intentional and malicious.

In fact, any shooting can be considered accidental due to a manufacturing defect, accidental discharge, poor maintenance of the gun, and a plethora of other reasons.

Sure, the mere notion of a child bringing a firearm into school is ludicrous, but you’d be surprised what it’s possible to find when investigating school shootings, our Los Angeles juvenile defense attorney at Okabe & Haushalter says.

If your child is being accused of injuring other children at school or committing any crime, it’s not the end of the world if you have a skilled team of juvenile defense lawyers by your side.

Girl, 12, arrested after police shooting: but is she to blame?

Earlier this month, Los Angeles residents woke up to a disturbing report in the media: there was a school shooting at a middle school that left five people injured.

What’s even more shocking is that it wasn’t a 15 or 16-year-old boy – who get involved in the overwhelming majority of school shootings – who fired a gun at the school. It was a 12-year-old girl.

The shooting was reported to the Los Angeles Police Department, which dispatched a team of police officers to arrest the underage girl who is suspected of a school shooting and injuring five people, two of whom sustained severe injuries.

The police could not reveal the identity of the girl because she is a juvenile. Nonetheless, the girl faces charges of negligent discharge of a firearm, according to the police.

The school shooting is still being investigated, and details about how the shooting occurred are scarce. One of the injured boys, aged 15, was lucky to make it alive after he was shot in the head. Doctors were able to stabilize the boy.

The semiautomatic gun was confiscated at the scene of the school shooting. Witnesses are being interviewed by the police. It’s yet unclear how the firearm ended up in the 12-year-old girl’s possession.

Before investigators have they are saying and conclude what caused the shooting, the plausibility of accidental shooting cannot be ruled out, our best juvenile defense attorneys in Los Angeles say.
